Before starting Deckroz, I spent years working closely with decking companies and outdoor renovation builders in Sydney — not only in the office, but on the tools and on site. I was involved in the full journey of a project: attending site visits, assisting with design direction, preparing client approvals, estimating and quoting, booking materials and deliveries, lodging home warranty insurance, drafting contracts and variations, raising invoices and managing communication.

On top of the paperwork and pre-construction work, I also acted as a leading hand on site — supervising installations, coordinating trades and helping to deliver projects from start to finish. This gave me a rare combination of experience across both the administrative and physical sides of the business.

Being embedded in these companies allowed me to understand how decking businesses actually operate day-to-day. I’ve seen the realities, the pressures and the natural challenges that come with quoting, scheduling, client communication and job delivery — and in many cases I helped builders find practical solutions and take action.

Over time I realised that many builders and landscapers were facing similar challenges around design clarity, 3D communication, material planning and documentation. By combining my drafting and 3D design background with my on-site carpentry and project management experience, I knew I could support more builders than just the ones I was working inside.

Deckroz was created for that purpose: to bridge concept and construction, and to support outdoor builders with the tools they need to plan, price and deliver their projects with confidence.
